Kays Sensei began his martial arts training on March 29, 1993, studying Shorei Goju Ryu Karatedo at Frank Harness Karate USA under Mr. Frank Harness.
In his 29 years of training in the martial arts, Kays Sensei has studied Shorin Ryu Karatedo, Shorei Goju Ryu Karatedo, Dentokan Jujutsu, and Dentokan Iaijutsu.
In addition to regular training with his current instructor, Col. Roy Hobbs, and former instructor, Mr. Frank Harness, he has also trained occasionally with the late Master Oyata Seiyu, Mr. Blake Burgert, and Mr. Iain Abernethy.
Kays Sensei currently holds the following certifications:
Rokudan [6th-degree black belt] in Shorin Ryu Karatedo
Shihan Menkyo [Master Instructor License] in Shorin Ryu Karatedo
Instructor certification under Iain Abernethy in the practical application of karate
Sandan [3rd-degree black belt] in Shorei Goju Ryu Karatedo
Kays Sensei opened Dentokan Dojo, which offers instruction in Shorin Ryu Karatedo, on April 28, 2008, in his hometown of Frankfort, Indiana.
